Targeted SEO at Scale: How Anyplace Became a Top Organic Performer

Case Study: Building A High-Intent, Persona-Driven Seo Strategy At Anyplace That Increased Traffic By 1,800% And Drove 40% Of Revenue

Overview

As the Director of Marketing at Anyplace, a mid-term housing platform, I developed and executed an SEO strategy that transformed organic search into a top-performing growth channel. By targeting high-intent, synonymous, and niche persona-based keywords, I increased site traffic by 1,800% and drove 40% of monthly revenue through organic search within one year.

The Challenge

The primary challenge was that our competitors had a heavy amount of market share and huge budgets to spend on advertising. I needed to be crafty, as a young startup, we also had limited budgets for paid search.

The Strategy

To build a performance-driven SEO engine, I focused on deeply understanding our customers and how they searched for housing solutions. The strategy centered around three core keyword segments:

  • Exact Match Keywords
These high-intent keywords directly described our offering—terms like “furnished apartments,” “corporate housing,” and “monthly rentals.” They allowed us to capture users already searching for a solution like Anyplace.

  • Synonymous Keywords & Phrases
To expand reach, I targeted related terms like “temporary housing,” “mid-term rentals,” and “monthly vacation rentals.” These keywords connected us with users who needed flexible stays but didn’t know us by name.

  • Niche Persona-Based Keywords
I created targeted content for specific customer profiles—such as “digital nomad housing,” “travel nurse housing,” and “remote worker rentals.” These pages attracted high-converting traffic by addressing the unique needs of niche segments.

The Execution

I built out a structured SEO roadmap tied to our ideal customer personas and growth priorities:

  • Conducted extensive keyword research using tools like Ahrefs and Google Search Console to identify gaps and opportunities

  • Prioritized keywords based on intent, search volume, competition, and alignment with business goals

  • Developed scalable content briefs and collaborated with writers to produce high-quality, conversion-optimized landing pages and blog posts

  • Implemented internal linking systems, updated metadata, and worked with product/design to improve page experience and technical SEO

  • Set up tracking to monitor keyword rankings, page performance, and revenue attribution across organic channels

The SEO plan was tightly integrated with lifecycle and paid efforts to ensure consistent messaging and a cohesive funnel across the user journey.

The Results

The results were extremely lucrative for Anyplace, and continue to pay dividends to this day.

  • 1,800% increase in organic traffic within 12 months

  • 40% of monthly revenue generated from organic traffic

  • Ranked on the first page of Google for dozens of high-intent and niche keywords

  • Built a scalable SEO engine that continued to drive compounding traffic with minimal upkeep

  • Reduced reliance on paid acquisition while improving CAC and LTV

Key Takeaways

  • SEO can be a powerful and sustainable growth engine—especially when it’s tightly aligned with customer needs and business objectives.

  • Segmenting by keyword intent (exact match, synonymous, persona-based) enabled us to scale without sacrificing relevance.

  • A lean, high-leverage approach can outperform larger teams when strategy, execution, and systems thinking align.

  • SEO is not just a content play—it’s a cross-functional effort that touches product, brand, analytics, and customer insight.
